Hubert George Rebiffé

January 11, 1939 - July 27, 2022

This is the story of Hubert George Rebiffé, a wonderful human that was loved, is missed and will forever be in our hearts. Hugh was foremost a husband, father, mentor, friend and number one fan of the BC Lions.

His story starts on January 11, 1939... a typical winter’s day in Winnipeg, Manitoba with temperatures reaching a balmy -22.8 degrees Celsius (-9 Fahrenheit).

As the middle child of Rene and Anais Rebiffé, he grew up spoiled along with his sister Dolores and brother Armand. This self described “city boy” had a love for music and amassed one of the largest record collections in the city of Winnipeg rivalled only by the top radio station. And later, his love of music brought him to join the “Langley First Capital Chorus” for many years singing Barbershop style.

He met and married the love of his life, Bernice, and for the over 61 years they were the life of the party. Their wanderlust took them south to Anaheim then Long Beach California and then back to Winnipeg (because they really missed the snow). Finally, with that out of their system, they headed west to settle in Tsawwassen, BC with their four children: Jeff; Steve; Mike; and Liz. And during all this he studied to become an RIA then CMA and finally a CPA.

Hugh and Bernice eventually kicked all their kids out of the house and built a beautiful ocean view home on the White Rock hillside, opening their doors to as many guests as possible. And when they got sick of all the freeloaders (you know who you are), they moved down the road to Ocean Park to settle into the “condo life style”.

As a proud Grandfather, Hugh welcomed nine Grand Babies into his world: Tamara; Shelby; Thierry; Jaymie; Olivia; Phoebe; Taylor; Bailey; and Noel - quite a legacy.

Through his lifelong desire to catch the “big one”, he regularly dragged anyone with the slightest interest in fishing to join his quest, jump in his canoe and tour the interior of BC. While he held a special fondness for Box Lake, he never met a lake he wouldn’t fish.

Hugh was renowned for his dedication to the preservation of a “proper” hotdog - NO KETCHUP - and a true connoisseur of Reuben sandwiches, barbecued ribs and coleslaw.

But, as they say, “all good things must come to an end” and on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 he passed away at Langley Hospice after a short battle with %$@!# cancer.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you to simply sit back, have a cold one and enjoy a sunset in Hugh’s honour.

A casual Open House Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2022 at the Ocean Park Community Hall from 1PM to 4PM.
